Over 300 people gathered at the Empire Theatre Church Hall on Friday the 19th June to celebrate World Refugee Day.  There was music, dance, art, sharing of stories and wonderful food.  Toowoomba is the third largest resettlement centre in Queensland (after Brisbane and Logan) and occasions such as World Refugee Day are a great chance to celebrate the contribution of newly arrived people to our local community.  The theme for 2009 was “Freedom from Fear”.  One of our Commission members Mrs Margaret Battle, Principal of St Saviours College spoke with two secondary students, Yar and Abuk.  They shared their appreciation of the freedom that they enjoy and their hopes for the future.
