In 2007 the Toowoomba Aboriginal Community and Toowoomba City Council commissioned the Social Justice Commission to conduct a Strengths and Needs Analysis.  The process was a very positive one with a number of key recommendations being made in the final report - Creating a Future - Owning the Past and the Present.  One of the results of this research project was the setting up of the http://www.indigenews.com.au/ website.  You can read the report and find out more about the Community Capacity Building Group in Toowoomba at this website.

In 2009 the Oakey Reconciliation Group and the Toowoomba Regional Council have commissioned our organisation to conduct another Strengths and Needs analysis.   To date it has been a very exciting journey with a number of inspirational people working hard to address issues of disadvantage in this great little community.

The Oakey Reconciliation Group formed in early 2009.  They are working with the Social Justice Commission to conduct a strengths and needs analysis.  They meet each fortnight at 'the Yumba' and are planning the first community NAIDOC celebration in Oakey for seventeen years.   The Aboriginal community in Oakey has grown by about 20 percent in the last ten years.  Close to ten percent of the population identify as Aboriginal.  Two highlights of this year have been a wonderful local Indigenous art exhibition and the emergence of local music talent Robert Wharton.  It has been a real privilege to journey with a great group of people in 2009.
