Bishop Morris' Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Reference Group

In 2009 Bishop William Morris established an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Reference Group.  Members of this group are  Phillip Dreise, Darlene Garvey. Kristian Rose, Maree Toombs, Raelene Ward, and Ron and Jenny Waters.

This group will provide advice and guidance to the Bishop on Diocesan Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues.  One of the first priorities and actions of the group is the develop a Reconciliation Action Plan across the Diocese.

(N.B. There is no presumption that this group represents all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the region.  It is not taking over the role of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in the region.  Where there are critical local issues the local community should be consulted directly.)

Some of the hopes for this group are that they will :

     -  be a catalyst for practical reconciliation and change within the Diocese

     -  encourage parishes to embrace the diversity of their parish and

disseminate information relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait

Islander parishioners to local liturgy groups

     -  encourage development of local reconciliation groups

     -  identify key Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander role models to

        create a positive message
